Description
Born in British colonial Hong Kong in 1949, Joseph Cheng is one of many Hong Kong citizens of his time who holds a strong affinity with their territory. After growing up well-educated, Cheng set his sights on study abroad in Australia and New Zealand. It is through these experiences in the West that Cheng witnessed democracy at work, and inspired a life-long battle to bring this concept, theory and all to his homeland.
Cheng grew to become an eminent political scientist, educator and media commentator, specialising in Hong Kong and Chinese political development. Despite the struggles, Cheng has dedicated his life to bringing democracy to Hong Kong, and the fruits of his labours will continue a legacy beyond his years.
